'Swiss Miss'
I was contacted by a lady who works for the Swiss Miss Company (Yes, the Hot Chocolate people) to see if I could do a costume for them. In 5 days. There was going to be a spot on The Today Show on NBC where a girl dressed as The Swiss Miss would be handing out hot chocolate to everyone at their 'Winter Carnival'. Now I was already swamped with comissions and on top of that moving into a new apartment... but how could I say no to a chance at designing and creating something that would be seen on international tv?!?
So I took on the challenge. They sent me over a few drawings of the sort of thing they wanted but relied upon me for the final design. And this is what I came up with. i was very tense until the costume arrived in New York and the company and show were all thrilled with the results.

The jumper is made in royal blue 'linen look' fabric; a little heavy but as the girl was going to be outside in New York heavy was good. The apron and the shirt are made out of white crepe (one of my favorite fabrics to use!) and the flowers are hand stenciled on. The lace you see is actual swiss lace; I was happy to be able to find that and add that extra touch.
Hopefully soon I will have screencapes and a video which you can see the TV spots; she was on camera several times and you got great views of the costume!
